This initiative will provide schools with an opportunity to encourage the idea of reading for pleasure. It is suggested that schools carefully organize the days events to enable students to experience a variety of activities- silent reading, paired reading, invited guests to read to the students etc. It is essential to provide students with a variety of reading material: fiction, non-fiction, tapes, magazines, newspapers, laptops with reading software etc.

Instructions

• The funding is available for schools to organise events to enable students to experience a variety of activities – silent reading, paired reading, invited guests to read to the students with some writing tasks.
• Students should be provided with a variety of reading material: fiction, non-fiction, tapes, magazines, newspapers, laptops with reading software etc. Enclosed is a list of book titles that have proved successful with students and contact names of book suppliers.
• Please enclose in your evaluation a detailed description of the activities undertaken in the running of the initiative along with any relevant photographs of the activities undertaken. We would be very grateful if the photos are sent to us digitally as the quality is great for publications. Please make sure that you have sought permission from parents/guardians to use the photos in publications. Some schools write to all parents asking them to make contact with the school if they object to photos being published.
