LCA Modular Course: Implementing an LCA Approach to Teaching & Learning

Target Group
Teachers teaching the Leaving Certificate Applied programme who want to explore & gain first hand experience of teaching and learning methodologies relevant to the programme.
Course Aims
- Examine the importance of activity based learning in a Leaving Certificate Applied context and the outcomes achieved by Active Teaching & Learning in LCA.
- Identify specific methodologies which promote the key principles of the LCA programme and demonstrate their implementation in the LCA classroom.
- Consider the role of the LCA teacher and develop models for engaging students in self directed learning experiences.
- Provide hands-on opportunities for teachers to practise particular approaches to classroom learning experiences.
- Explore and share experiences of best practice with the group.
- Explore the use of the out-of-school in a range of Leaving Certificate Applied courses.
- Based on experience, prepare guidelines for organising, using and reviewing a number of teaching/learning methodologies in school and out of school.
