These sessions are intended for teachers of Junior Certificate Science; all are welcome especially those whose main subject is not physics

Course Aims
Format: Exploration of key concepts, demonstrations, questions and answers and the opportunity to carry out simple but important experiments.

Aims: To facilitate the clarification of fundamental concepts, to illustrate their applications in real situations and to explore how they might be taught.


Questions What is sound? Why does it not travel through a vacuum?
Do sound waves exist? How can sound go around corners?
Can two sounds cancel out one another?
What is meant by the frequency of a note?
Does noise have a frequency?
What are harmonics and why are they important?
How can I measure the speed of sound?

This illustrated lecture will deal with these and many other questions. There will be numerous demonstrations and participants will have the opprotunity to carry out some simple investigations.
