Race Relations in France in the 1980s Documents-based Study

- A series of Evening Workshops has been organized for Teachers of Leaving Certificate History (later modern field of study), for whose students the topic prescribed for documents-based study in the 2012 and 2013 examinations is “European retreat from empire and the aftermath, 1945-1990”. Another of the three case studies for the topic is ‘Race Relations in France in the 1980s’. This evening workshop aims to assist teachers in preparing their students for the demands of the documents-based question on the prescribed topic. The approach will reflect the syllabus focus on enquiry and evidence and will explore some of the means by which critical thinking skills are developed in the history classroom.
