- This in-service will focus on areas/topics in Junior Certificate Science and LC Chemistry that the majority of students have difficulty with. The core philosophy is modelled on the Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education programme or CASE. The course will contain many practical examples for use in the chemistry classroom. It will include a resource pack including activities, worksheets, teaching resources for the teachers and a student workbook.
Learning Outcomes
Participants who complete this course should be able to
• Outline where problems lie in the area of the Particulate Nature of Matter and Atomic Structure
• Outline of the use of diagnostic tests to uncover students lack of understanding about atomic structure
• Explore teaching strategies for introducing the Particulate Nature of Matter and overcoming these problems in a concrete and tangible manner.
